Why We're Unique
design thinking
BCS inspires students to reach beyond
themselves to achieve their full potential.
As part of our commitment to preparing our students for the 21st century, we have partnered with the d.school at Stanford University to integrate Design Thinking methodologies into the core curriculum for every grade level. Design Thinking is a set of tools, methods and processes by which students develop new answers to complex problems. It challenges students to combine empathy, creativity and rationality to create innovative and resourceful solutions.
The Process
Students are taught the five steps of Design Thinking beginning in Kindergarten. Each grade level develops unique units of instruction structured around the Design Thinking process that can be differentiated to meet the needs of all learners.
Real World Problem Solving
Students are tasked with creating solutions to real-world problems, ranging from reducing the amount of trash in the ocean in Kindergarten to designing an iPad stand in eighth grade.
Deep Learning
Every Design Thinking unit is aligned with the Common Core State Standards, and students are assessed in a variety of ways to ensure content mastery.
