About the Charter School Invitational Junior Olympics

Over seven hundred students from throughout the Bay Area will come together to participate in the second Charter School Invitational Junior Olympics taking place on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Stanford University's Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Seeking to echo the traditions of the International Olympic Games, students are participating together in an opening ceremony that includes a performance of the National Anthem, a specially decorated banner for each school, and a recitation of the Olympic Oath.

With events ranging from track and field, basketball and soccer shootouts, rhythmic gymnastics and even a staff relay race, participants and attendees are sure to have a wonderful time. Along with the excitement of competition, the students will be experiencing the tremendous fellowship and respect that bring people from different communities together.

The young people will be cheered on and awarded medals by a variety of local Olympians and athletes, teachers, parents and friends.

My child appears to have multiple events at the same time. How do they know where to go and when?
Track events take precedence over field events. We will have announcements for the beginning of each track event, during field events, and for medals awards. For example, if your child is signed up for a track event and another event that both start at 10:30AM they should report to the track first and then go back for the other event. We will have volunteers to help children find their way to and from events, medals podium, and then back to the stands.
When will medals be given out?
These will be handed out by our special guests as soon as an event is over and official results are confirmed. All children will be photographed during events and at the medals podium and all photos will be uploaded to a website where pictures can be downloaded without having to purchase them.

Parents are NOT allowed on the field or the tracks due to safety. This includes taking pictures at the official medal podium.

All winners will get medals (gold, silver, bronze) and all participants will get a ribbon (that can be hung up).

All rhythmic gymnasts will get a special medal as well the "outstanding citizens" torch bearers, band members, and singers.
Where/How does my child go in between their events?
They go back to the stands where the families are sitting. Stands will be divided into areas for each school, so parents will be easier to find. K-2 students will be ushered to and from their events.
Which schools are participating this year?
The schools for 2010 are:
Bullis Charter School
Charter School of Morgan Hill
Escuela Popular
Livermore Valley Charter School
Rocketship Si Se Puede
Voices College-Bound Language Academy
If you want more information about the participating schools, please refer to our Participating Schools page.
I am sitting in the stands. How do I get pictures of my children?
Parents are NOT allowed on the field or the tracks due to safety. All children will be photographed and all photos will be uploaded to a website where pictures can be downloaded without having to purchase them. This includes pictures at the official medal podium.

  • Water    $1.00
  • Assorted SOBE vitamin water   $2.00
  • Strawberry Wild Jamba Juice   $3.00
  • Peach pleasure Jamba Juice   $3.00
There are no other options for purchasing food or beverages within walking distance to the site, so be sure to bring your own food, water, snacks, etc. if you do not plan to purchase your food and beverages.
What are the seating arrangements?
Families may set up areas to sit in the stands to watch the opening ceremonies and track and field events. The stands do not have shade structures. As we expect warm weather, if you have your own shade structures, tents/umbrellas/etc. to bring for the stands, it will be very helpful. Please label all of your belongings with your family name and school name.

Stands will be divided into areas for each school, so parents will be easier to find.
Where do I park?
Stanford is allowing us to park free of charge in the lots next to Angell Field. As there are other events on campus, parking may be limited so we encourage you to come as early as you can and carpool if possible.
How do I sign up for a volunteer shift? **Updated June 2**
Thank you for giving your time to help make this event a success. To sign up for a shift, please contact your main organizer or school office.

If you are a Bullis Charter School parent, please contact olympics@bullischarterschool.com.
