This morning a lawsuit to resolve important issues with the Los Altos School District was filed in court by Bullis Charter School.
The lawsuit seeks resolution to several longstanding Proposition 39 issues between Bullis Charter School and the District. It is vital that these matters be resolved now as it impacts Bullis' ability to fulfill its full mission as granted by the Santa Clara County Board of Education.
For five years Bullis has been a great success by any measure, except one: We have been unable to bridge the divide between Bullis and the District over their obligation to provide reasonable facilities for our students. We wish this were not the case and we aim to end the back and forth that often yields no results.
After years of negotiations, we have no other choice but to pursue a regrettable, but necessary, legal path. We believe that only through a clear determination of Proposition 39's provisions in critical areas related to the obligations of the school district to our school, will we secure our long term future as a valuable educational institution for the Los Altos attendance area.
As you may know, some of the issues we are looking to clarify are:
Ensure the School District fully complies with the law by providing an adequate school campus, facilities, and fields to Bullis that are reasonably equivalent to those provided for other public schools in the district.
Allow Bullis students a reasonable use of the fields on our campus and in a consistent manner.
Have a clear, common framework on critical issues in order to provide a foundation for good faith dialogue moving forward so the back and forth need not happen through lawyers and Judges, but between parents and administrators.
We take this action with a profound sense of good will -- and we want there to be no mistake that our only aim is to secure fairness from the District so that we can plan for our exciting future.
